Incident Management Team assumes command of the Lions Roar Fire

(Priest Lake, Idaho- 8/11/22) Today at 6 am the North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team 2 (NI IMT 2) assumed command of the Lions Roar Fire. The quick response of initial attack suppression resources has allowed for a seamless transition to the IMT.

Suppression efforts yesterday were very successful in establishing handline and installing hose lays around the fire’s southern edge. The fire perimeter remains unchanged, and size continues to be estimated at 55 acres. Today crews will reinforce those lines and work to complete line around the fire’s entirety. As this happens, more precise mapping will become available.

The fire is burning in very steep and rocky terrain with limited vehicle and fire equipment access. Fire behavior continues to be described as creeping and smoldering with single tree torching.

Additional resources will be arriving today to support the pumps and hose lays installed by crews yesterday.

Aircraft will be available for water drops as needed.

The public can expect to see increase fire traffic in and around the fire area. Please be cautious when on the road and respectful of closures in place. These closures are necessary for public and fire crew safety as roads are narrow and winding and fire vehicles and equipment are oversized.

Lion Creek Road #42 and Lucky Creek Road #43 are currently closed for fire suppression activities until further notice.
