FIRE INFORMATION NEWS RELEASE 

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  

08/09/2022, 10:15 PT 

 

PRIEST LAKE LION ROAR FIRE 

Lion Creek Drainage at Priest Lake, east of Priest Lake State Park – Lionhead Unit 

 

Started 8/8/22 around 1600 hours PT 

 

Yesterday’s Activity: Initial attack in logging slash combined with steep and rocky terrain is making containment difficult.

 

Today’s Plans: Utilize heavy equipment open up old roads to allow firefighters to engage the fire.  Continue to use aircraft to slow the spread of the fire.  

 

Weather and Fire Behavior:  Moderate fire behavior.  Short uphill runs and isolated torching. Temperatures in the mid-90’s with a max RH 16%

 

•             No structures threatened

•             Road restrictions on Lucky Crick, Squaw Crick, and Lion Head

•             30-35 acres in size with moderate spread in an active logging job, burning in timber and logging slash

•             Ownership – State endowment lands

•             Protection – Priest Lake Fire Protection District (IDL)

•             4 engines on scene

•             1 20-person crew ordered

•             3 Fire Boss (SEATS)

•             2 Air attack

•             3 Helicopters

•             1 Excavator

•             1 Bulldozer

•             2 Water Tenders

•             Investigator ordered
