Wildfire Information Resources for Media

Boise, ID – News media wishing to get information on a fire occurring on state, federal or private land protected by Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) or a Timber Protective Association should call: 208-334-0233. This number will be answered by the IDL Fire Information Duty Officer between the hours of 8 AM - 8 PM (PT).

We also launched a Media Fire Resources webpage that aggregates IDL’s valuable fire information resources in one place. Please check out and bookmark: https://www.idl.idaho.gov/fire-management/media-fire-resources/.

• Fire Restriction Finder – this shows up to date information on current fire restrictions across the state: https://www.idl.idaho.gov/fire-management/fire-restrictions-finder/
• Wildfire Alerts – this is a new feature this fire season that allows citizens and the media to sign up to receive text or email alerts for the areas they choose: https://www.idl.idaho.gov/fire-management/alerts/

News releases and media alerts are generally sent if the wildfire is more than 10 acres, if it is threatening structures, or if it is highly visible to the public.

We hope these resources are helpful and make it easier for you to do your job reporting.
