Spring Fire Meeting
IDL staff from across the state convened in Coeur d'Alene April 6 and 7 for the annual Spring Fire Meeting. Director Miller opened the meeting with news of the recent passage of IDL's budget and of our hazard pay legislation.
The meeting's agenda covered a variety of topics including discussions about fire business management, and incident planning including radio and technology training. Team members also provided updates about the fire cache, after action reporting, the master fire agreement paid R&R, and hazard pay.
CNR Board Meeting
Director Miller participated in the College of Natural Resources (CNR) board meeting and the CNR awards banquet last week in Moscow. Miller is currently serving on the board.
Arbor Day
The State Arbor Day celebration will be held at the Idaho State Museum in Boise on Friday, April 29. The event will start at 10 a.m. Seedlings will be given away at the event, as well as at all IDL staff, Supervisory Area Offices and Forest Protection District Offices.
The IDL offices received up to $200 funding from the Idaho Timber License Plates to purchase items for the celebrations. IDL again partnered with Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association to administer the state's Arbor Day Grant Program. Avista Utilities, Idaho Power and Rocky Mountain Power contributed to the Community Forestry Trust Account to fund the 45 grants available to communities for the purchase of trees for Arbor Day.

Incident Communication Improvements
During the fire season in FY2022 IDL implemented a plan to improve communications with citizens facing wildfire impacts. At its core, this initiative aligned the agency’s fire-related web, social media, email, and media outreach communications to distribute consistent messaging and deployed technology creatively to reach more people with critical fire messages.
Staff has put together a short document noting the FY2022 Citizen Centric Communication Enhancements that details the changes made and the performance metrics that show dramatic improvement in reaching affected communities.
