Highlighting Marin and Brittney
Mentor and Mentee

Paired as mentor and mentee, Marin and Brittney work in different programs and different IDL offices. In October 2021, they met in person after six months of meeting by phone and Zoom.
At their in-person meeting, Marin helped Brittney with a mineral lease, and Brittney showed Marin a typical day in the life of a forester.
"Meeting my mentee in person was the best and final part of our relationship. It has been nice to zoom and talk via phone calls, but to actually spend the day and learn about the job she performs for IDL has been amazing, and I have so much respect and admiration for her."

Brittney Esser
Lands Resource Specialist – Forest Management (since December 2020)
From Phoenix, Arizona, Brittney graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Master of Forestry, and she joined the IDL team at the St. Joe Office last year. As a new employee, Brittney recognized the benefits of learning from another employee's experience and signed up to participate as a mentee in the IDL Mentoring Program.
"It boosts your confidence as a new employee and gives you the opportunity to receive advice from current IDL employees."
|
Brittney recommends for new employees to participate in the Mentoring Program because the time commitment is minimal and you will automatically make a friend.

|
"The most valuable thing has been having a friend in the agency who is experienced and able to answer my questions."

Marin Sanborn
Technical Records Specialist – Commercial & Mineral Leasing (since 2015)
Marin applied to be a mentor because she enjoys helping people feel comfortable and wants to be the person they can call if they need help. Here is how Marin describes her experience as a mentor:
"I have enjoyed connecting and meeting someone new to IDL who is in a line of work completely different from mine. It has been very interesting to learn what she does for her job and her perspective."
"I would definitely recommend being a mentor. The mentoring program is a great way to do something new, meet some new people, and be part of their first experience with IDL. I really enjoyed helping them navigate through some things that we might take for granted, that someone new to IDL may not be aware of."
