Auctions Scheduled for Nov. & Dec.
Two IDL auctions will take place in the next few weeks. Next Wednesday, the two adjacent agriculture college endowment parcels will again go up for auction. They were originally auctioned in June, however, purchaser reneged on his purchase, requiring IDL to auction it a second time. The auction will take place Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 12:30 PM at the Marriott Courtyard, 1789 S Eagle Rd, in Meridian.
The second auction will be a Payette Lake Cottage Site auction held Thursday, Dec. 2 at 10 AM at the Waters Edge Event Center at 287 E. Shore Drive in Eagle. Six unleased lots will be auctioned - four upland lots and two lakefront lots.

IDL's communications team is evaluating the use and production of the agency's annual report to ensure it meets the needs of its readers. The team compiled a brief survey, which takes less than five minutes to complete, to help determine how this report is produced in the future, and if IDL should continue to produce printed copies.

Jason Svancara Promoted to North Idaho Operations Chief
Jason Svancara was promoted to Northern Operations Chief and started his new position on Nov. 1. Svancara graduated with a BS in Forest Operations from the U of I in 2000. He worked for the Forest Service for several years before joining IDL in the Ponderosa Area office in 2005 where he served as the Fire Warden. In his spare time he likes to farm, mountain bike, and play in the woods with his family.
North Idaho Maritime Meeting
On Thursday, October 28, Director Miller met with John Condon of North Idaho Maritime (NIM) and discussed IDL's denial of NIM's request to reconsider the June 2021 decision to not lease 2 acres in Cougar Bay for a year-round work area. Director Miller reaffirmed the denial at both the meeting an in correspondence to Mr. Condon on Nov. 3. In October IDL's offer to lease 5 acres in Cougar Bay to NIM's for winter dock storage was reextended.
Lessons Learned: Fire After Action Review
IDL's Fire Bureau team members met last week in Moscow for the annual fire season after action review (AAR). During the review, the bureau prioritized opportunities for operational improvement with dispatch processes and pre-season contracting for resources and began planning for implementing the recommended changes.
Hogan Retires, Inman Appointed to Lead Scaling Board
During its Friday, Oct. 29 meeting the Idaho Board of Scaling Practices (IBSP) tapped Shawn Inman to serve as organization’s new executive director. Inman will officially begin his new duties on Nov. 14 and replaces Russ Hogan who retired after serving IBSP 26 years. At the meeting, both the board and Director Miller recognized Hogan's exemplary service to the forest products industry and people of Idaho.
Allen Harper, who was reappointed to his second three-year term by Governor Little, was also sworn in at the meeting.
IBSP is an independent state agency attached to the Idaho Department of Lands for administrative purposes and charged with enforcing log scaling standards prescribed by statute and regulations.

West State Fire: A Shared Stewardship Success Story One Year Later at Tamarack Resort
One year ago the West State fire started near Tamarack Resort's mid-mountain lodge, quickly growing to 50 acres. Although the fire was halted at just 60 acres, it became a catalyst for jumpstarting Shared Stewardship forest improvement projects in the area.

Application Period Open for Communication Site Near Tamarack Resort
IDL is accepting applications for a communications site near Tamarack Ski Resort. Horvath Communications of South Bend, Indiana has filed the initial application. This company also holds the lease for the communications sites on Deinard Lane and Lick Creek Road. The company has worked closely with Tamarack and the ski resort is supportive of the cell tower. This is a 20 year lease built on .051 acres with a 1.151 acre access road that is already in place. Lease applications will be accepted through Wednesday, Nov. 17. Based on the number of co-locaters on the tower, the endowments will earn between $300,000 and $600,000 over 20 years. State Hospital South is the beneficiary.
