My response to overreaching letter from Democrat U.S. Senators
My response to the overreaching letter by Democrat U.S. Senators Warren (Mass.), Durbin (Ill.), and Blumenthal (Conn.). If these Democrats spent as much time focused on securing the U.S.-Mexico border as they did the University of Idaho, we'd have fewer drugs pouring in. Instead of worrying about Idaho, they should do their job and pass a responsible federal budget.
Excerpts from my letter:
"Your states rank the highest in the nation for the cost of higher education while Idaho ranks among the lowest, and our new LAUNCH grants invest directly in our students and make education and training for “real world” in-demand jobs even more accessible for our graduating high school seniors."
"Idaho is safe. We have the strongest economy in the nation. We have cut more taxes per capita than any other state, and we’re the least regulated of all 50 states. People are flocking to Idaho while residents of your states are leaving in droves. I would be happy to share with you our recipe for success since your own states need help in reducing crime and lowering taxes."
"While Idaho ends every budget year with a surplus, the federal government is careening toward a fiscal cliff with $32 trillion in debt, and it appears we’re headed for another federal government shutdown in the coming weeks.
"Perhaps you should focus your attention away from Idaho and do your job by passing a responsible federal budget so our government can function properly."
"If you spent as much time focused on securing the U.S.-Mexico border as you did the University of Idaho, we would have fewer drugs pouring into our country."
Idaho homeowners, school districts to see property tax relief
Come November, Idaho homeowners could see their property tax bill cut by up to 20%! Our property tax relief bill is keeping more $$ in the pockets of Idahoans.
Dornfest’s estimated percentage is similar to estimated cuts of 10% to 20% that legislators and Gov. Brad Little shared as they promoted House Bill 292, the property tax the Idaho Legislature passed earlier this year.
“There is real money there,” Dornfest said in an interview Wednesday. “I think that is what people need to know – yes, it can be done and we are not dragging our feet. We are making every possible effort, and we are going to get there.”

Celebrating the U.S. Constitution
Well said Lt. Governor Scott Bedke! Constitution Day is a time to draw strength from the sacred laws, values, and protections provided in our nation's founding document. God Bless the United States of America!
"“Keeping the Republic” will not happen by accident. It will require vigilance, diligence and a concerted effort. If you find yourself discouraged by the increasing rancor and discord in our politics today, get involved! At the very least, register to vote — and then faithfully vote in every election and on every ballot measure. Apathy will kill our Republic.
Our Founding Fathers fought through rancor, discord, and dissent, setting aside their own personal interests for the sake of the greater good. And in the end, they handed us a gift of incredible value: the United States Constitution. Under its guidance, we live in the freest and most prosperous nation on earth. I am deeply devoted to making sure that my children and grandchildren will enjoy the same opportunities I have had. I hope you will join me because every citizen of this country needs to be engaged in this effort.
As we observe Constitution Day on Sept. 17, each of us should take a moment to reflect on this inspired document and its importance. And we should utter a prayer of gratitude for those who labored in Independence Hall in the summer heat of 1787 to set the course for this nation’s future."

FFA Honorary American Degree Award
Had a great meeting with students and leaders from the American Falls FFA chapter. Inspiring to see the next generation of agriculture innovators right here in Idaho! I was honored to be a recipient of the Honorary American FFA Degree this year. This generation of students will represent the State of Idaho well in the national conference back in Indianapolis.
