Public can comment on big game season proposals Feb. 8 and attend upcoming public meetings
Idaho Fish and Game will be setting new big game seasons for deer, elk, pronghorn, black bear, wolf, and mountain lion in March, and hunters will be able to comment on season proposals Feb. 8–22. Hunters can easily check out the proposals on the big game season setting webpage once they have been posted at idfg.idaho.gov/comment. Proposals should be posted in early February.

Prime ice conditions for fishing varies by region depending on climate, elevation, and other factors, but typically late December through mid-February are good times.

South Fork Clearwater River Localized Broodstock Program Kicks Off Again: Calling All Anglers!
February is fast approaching, and that means another season of localized broodstock collection on the South Fork Clearwater River. Since 2010, Idaho Fish and Game has relied on assistance from the public to capture broodstock and help fuel the next generations of steelhead bound for our region.

River otter trapping season closed in Clearwater Region
Idaho Fish and Game was notified that the Clearwater Region's limit of 20 river otters was met on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. The otter trapping season for the entire region closes 72 hours after the harvest quota has been met. As a result, the otter season for the Clearwater Region closed at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.

F&G to host spring/summer Chinook salmon public meetings in February
Idaho Fish and Game will be hosting six public meetings for anglers to provide comments and opinions for spring/summer Chinook salmon fisheries. The meetings are slated for February, are free to attend, and (best of all) complimentary pizza and beverages will be provided.

The Idaho Fish and Game Citizens Shooting Range Advisory Committee will hold its first meeting on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. MST at Fish and Game's headquarters building at 600 S. Walnut Street in Boise. The meeting will be streamed live via Zoom.

Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant application period open Feb. 1 through April 30
The Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation is accepting applications for its 2025 grants cycle. The grants program provides funding on a competitive basis to nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Grants up to $10,000 per project are available.

New 2025-2027 Fishing Seasons and Rules booklets now available
Idaho Fish and Game's 2025-2027 Fishing Seasons and Rules are available digitally on our website and printed booklets will arrive at Fish and Game regional offices in early January and at license vendors in mid January. The new seasons and rules take effect Jan. 1, 2025.

Application period for Disabled Veterans and Children with Special Needs Special Big Game Tag program runs Jan. 2-31
The Disabled Veterans and Children with Special Needs Special Big Game Tag Program allows a qualified organization to apply for a special big game hunt tag on behalf of a disabled veteran or child with a life-threatening medical condition. The application period is Jan. 2 through Jan. 31 of the calendar year of the hunt.
