If you've ever wanted changes to fishing in Idaho, now is your time!

Anglers can now provide comments on F&G’s fishing seasons and fish management plan and attend public meetings to get more information

Idaho's fish belong to us all, and public input is a cornerstone to developing fisheries management plans, and the season and rules that align to the goals within the management plans.

Fishing regulations are updated on a 3-year cycle, and Fisheries Management Plans are updated every 6 years. This is a unique year when the regulation and management plan updates overlap - allowing anglers the ability to provide input on department policies as well as seasons and limits.

Anglers have three different opportunities to provide input and help shape Idaho’s fisheries. View videos and submit comments on the following topics:

  • Spring/summer Chinook salmon management strategies for 2024
  • Statewide fishing seasons and rules for 2025-27
  • Statewide Fisheries Management Plan for 2025-2030

Step 1: Public Scoping

Scoping is the gathering of ideas and opinions from the public, allowing us to hear what you like and think should change to improve fishing opportunity in Idaho. During the scoping period, anglers can submit ideas or suggestions about their favorite fisheries. This is an important process to hear what's on anglers' minds and what we should consider when developing proposals.

***WE ARE CURRENTLY AT THIS STEP IN THE PROCESS***

Tell us what you want!

Step 2: Public Comment

After public scoping, angler input is summarized and staff will prepare formal proposals for the public review and comment. Proposals are a formal presentation of ideas that are presented as potential regulations. This is the Public Comment period where we need to know what proposals you support and what proposals you don't support.

Coming May 2024

Step 3: Commission Decision

Fish and Game staff will provide the Commission with summary data from the public comment period.  Staff will also provide technical assistance to the commission related to any biological and scientific information related to decisions. At this point, the Commission will make a informed decision on the what will be included in the Fisheries Management Plan and Fishing Seasons and Rules. All Commission meeting are open public meetings, and provide one last opportunity for public to provide testimony to the commission before decisions are made.

Coming July 2024
