June 5th Deadline for Controlled Hunts Applications
Dear Sportsman,
If you haven’t already applied, don’t forget to put in for
Idaho’s controlled hunts before the June 5 deadline!
It’s
going to be another great hunting season in Idaho this fall. Both white-tailed and
mule deer numbers are some of the best we’ve seen in many years, and elk
populations are improving in many parts of the state.
This
means there are excellent hunting opportunities in Idaho with more controlled
hunt tags available this coming fall.

Over-the-Counter Tags - If a controlled hunt doesn’t fall your way, you
can still hunt deer and elk in Idaho. The state’s
general season, over-the-counter tags are available for most game units and elk zones.
Starting August 1, unsold nonresident general season tags can be purchased as a second deer and elk tag by both residents and nonresidents.

Upland Birds - Do you hunt upland birds? Idaho
offers hunting for 10 upland game bird species, including chukar, quail, gray
partridge, and ruffed grouse on millions of acres of public land. Season
lengths are long, and many upland bird seasons are open at the same time as big
game seasons.

 Nonresident License
Bonus - Did you know an nonresident Idaho hunting license includes a 3-day fishing license? If you are traveling to Idaho to hunt, make some time to go fishing! Thirty-four
different game fish can be found in Idaho, from mountain lakes to
lowland reservoirs.
Salmon and steelhead are an exception. To fish for these, you will need to purchase a 3-day salmon/steelhead license
or an annual license and appropriate permit.
