AmeriCorps Member Spotlight
Jordyn Bettencourt
AmeriCorps member and University of Idaho student Jordyn Bettencourt chose to serve as a summer member because she wanted to work with youth and help them have a high-quality STEM education experience. Bettencourt served in the University of Idaho 4-H Positive Youth Development AmeriCorps program this summer.
"I love seeing the kids' reactions after they build their own unique robot or design their own experiment," Bettencourt said. "I enjoy hearing them say, 'This is so exciting!' or 'Wow! I didn’t think I could do this!' after a lesson or activity. It is very rewarding to be able to work with these kids and to learn from them."
The Meridian native is especially proud of the program development she was able to do for day camps, volunteering at other AmeriCorps member events and working within the local community.
In addition, Bettencourt said serving as an AmeriCorps member was a great opportunity for her to continue to learn and develop her teaching skills. She is working towards a degree in agricultural education.
The Idaho 4-H Positive Youth Development AmeriCorps Program aims to strengthen communities by engaging underserved youth including those who live in rural communities, are economically disadvantaged and socially isolated.
