TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Floating Feather Road Closed
for Sinkhole Repairs

EAGLE — Following an evaluation of road conditions after discovering a sinkhole, Veolia has implemented a full closure of Floating Feather Road between Eagle Road and Ballantyne Lane to further investigate the cause and begin permanent repairs.

The duration of the closure is currently unknown. A timeline will be provided once the full extent of subsurface damage is determined. Every effort will be made to reopen the roadway before the start of the school year.

The sinkhole formed beneath the westbound lane Wednesday evening, with a surface opening approximately three feet in diameter. Below the pavement, the underground void extends about seven feet horizontally.

Veolia initially performed temporary patching over the opening, and flaggers routed traffic into the eastbound lanes during the early assessment. After further evaluation, a full closure was determined to be necessary to immediately begin the extensive work required for long-term repairs.

The cause of the sinkhole remains under investigation. A water main break occurred earlier this week in the same area, and Veolia crews are continuing to evaluate the site.

Veolia is coordinating closely with the Ada County Highway District throughout the repair and restoration process. ACHD will continue to monitor the condition of the roadway and support detour management. Traffic impacts and project updates will be shared as new information becomes available.

The closure applies to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic. Commuters should use either Ballantyne Lane or Eagle Road up to Beacon Light Road (please see the posted detour map). Local access will be maintained for residents.

“We appreciate the public’s patience as Veolia crews work to assess and conduct repairs as safely and efficiently as possible,” said Madeline Wyatt, Manager of Communications and Community Relations for Veolia. “We ask that people respect the closure and the work zone, and avoid approaching the site for their safety and the safety of our crews. Your cooperation helps ensure a smoother and more efficient repair process for everyone.”

Media inquiries should be directed to Veolia.
