ACHD Secures Federal Construction Funding for Build the Boise Bench Projects
ADA COUNTY — The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is proud to announce that it has secured $18.4 million in federal funding for the construction of several key projects, supporting ACHD’s continued efforts to connect communities to parks, schools, health care, work, and food.
The funding is awarded to ACHD through the U.S. Department of Transportation's (USDOT) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program. The program provides grants for surface transportation infrastructure projects with significant local or regional impact.
The grant, which is the largest single grant received in ACHD history, follows the District’s successful $5 million BUILD (formerly known as RAISE) planning grant awarded in 2023, which enabled the design of twelve multimodal projects in Boise and Garden City. The announcement will fund 4 of those major improvements across the Boise Central Bench neighborhood.
“This funding moves these important projects from vision to reality,” said ACHD Deputy Director of Planning and Projects, Dyan Bevins “We are deeply grateful to the federal government and our partners for their support of this transformational investment.”
Together, the projects will improve more than 5 miles of roadway. The identified roadways will all receive needed maintenance treatments. In addition, the grant funds will fill in sidewalk gaps, improve existing curb ramps and signals to meet current accessibility standards, improve pedestrian crossings, and enhance bike facilities. Plans also include improved transit stops and green stormwater infrastructure to protect local waterways.
“This is a massive win for our communities,” said ACHD Commissioner, Alexis Pickering. “These projects reflect our commitment to building a transportation system that works for everyone—no matter how you get around. With this funding, we are able to unlock once-in-a-lifetime improvements in places that have longstanding needs.”
Construction will take place across areas of Boise’s Central Bench. The segments include Allumbaugh Street from Northview Street to Fairview Avenue, Franklin Road from Milwaukee Street to Liberty Street, Irving Street from Curtis Road to Roosevelt Street, and Phillippi and Malad Streets from Irving Street to Orchard Street.
The Build the Boise Bench initiative reflects years of collaboration between ACHD, the City of Boise, Valley Regional Transit, and neighborhood associations.
“This is an investment in both our infrastructure and the future of our community,” said ACHD Commission President, Miranda Gold. “We’re proud to champion projects that bring real value to people’s daily lives. I’m so proud of the neighborhoods, our team, local partners, and our federal partners for making this funding possible.”
