ACHD Advises Caution as Strong Winds Cause Drifting Snow on Roadways
ADA COUNTY — The Ada County Highway District is urging drivers to use caution and avoid travel if possible Thursday evening due to hazardous road conditions caused by strong winds.
While ACHD crews have been actively plowing and treating roads following today’s snowfall, wind-driven snow is quickly covering previously plowed areas, leading to slick conditions and reduced visibility.
Crews have reported that some sections of roadway are becoming snow-covered again within minutes, posing challenges for both drivers and maintenance efforts. In addition, dropping temperatures are causing wet and slushy areas to refreeze, leading to icy conditions on many roads.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid driving if possible during periods of high wind and snow. Those who must travel should allow extra time, reduce speeds, and be prepared for quickly changing weather patterns, including sudden patches of snow-covered or icy roads. The District will continue monitoring conditions and deploying crews as needed to keep roads under its jurisdiction as clear as possible.
Drivers who encounter hazardous road conditions that pose a safety concern should report them to non-emergency dispatch at (208)377-6790. For emergencies, always call 911.
ACHD thanks residents for their patience and cooperation. ACHD will continue to post real-time updates on snow response operations on its social media accounts, and residents can follow ACHD on social media at @achdidaho.
