ACHD Reminds Residents to Keep
Storm Drains Clear This Fall
ADA COUNTY — With rainy weather on the horizon, Ada County residents are urged to ensure nearby storm drains are clear to help prevent localized flooding.
Storm drains help guide stormwater runoff into the water system. Leaves, grass and other debris can clog storm drains, leading to flooding on sidewalks, driveways and in the roadways. Neighbors are reminded not to blow or rake leaves or debris into the street when tidying up their yards and sidewalks.
ACHD encourages members of the public to check nearby storm drains and clear any leaves or debris that may obstruct water flow. Residents can identify their nearest storm drain inlet by checking the map on ACHD’s website. If a storm drain isn’t clear, residents should use a rake to clear leaves and debris away from the storm drain, allowing water to easily run down the drain. However, neighbors should never try to remove the grates.
These simple practices, along with ACHD’s regular street sweeping program, will keep neighborhoods clean, protect local waterways, and enhance safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.
All Ada County residents can drop off leaves for free at the Ada County Landfill from now until December 14th. More information is available on Ada County’s website.
Cities in Ada County also have their own collection and drop-off locations:
