ACHD Prepares to Begin

Downtown Eagle Mobility Project

ADA COUNTY — The Ada County Highway District is preparing to begin work on the Downtown Eagle Mobility Improvements. Utility work is anticipated to begin next month.

In preparation for the project, the public is invited to an open house, hosted by ACHD. Citizens can learn more about the project, how it will impact businesses and citizens, as well as what they can expect when the improvements are completed.

The open house will be held Wednesday, January 31st from 3-7pm at the Hilton Garden Inn in Eagle. Citizens are invited to stop by at any time to ask questions and learn more about the project.

The Downtown Eagle Mobility Improvements involve Eagle Road and State Street and the connecting roadway network, which includes Olde Park Place, Plaza Drive and Aikens Street.
Work will be done in phases to minimize the impact on surrounding businesses as much as possible.

The first phase will cover Eagle Road from State Highway 44 to the canal (just north of Plaza Drive), where crews will expand the intersection at Eagle Road and Plaza Drive, among other improvements.

Phase one also includes improvements on Plaza Drive between Eagle and 2nd Street, and a new traffic signal at the intersection of State and 2nd Streets.

The second phase is scheduled to begin this fall. Phase two will include improvements on Eagle Road, canal (just north of Plaza Drive) to State Street, State Street from Olde Park Place to 2nd Street, Olde Park Place between State St and Aikens Street, and Aikens Street from Olde Park Place to Eagle Road.

The goal of the street network improvements is to improve safety and mobility for all users while accommodating future traffic growth and creating a welcoming downtown environment.

Construction is expected to begin the first week of February, as Veolia begins work on a pipe replacement. Eagle Road will be closed between Plaza and Aikens Streets. The road closure for the pipe replacement work is expected to last about three to five weeks. After that, one southbound lane will remain closed for continuing work.

ACHD has coordinated with utilities, including Veolia, Idaho Power and Intermountain Gas. They will be completing improvements in tandem with ACHD’s work as part of the District’s “dig once” goal.

The Eagle Road and State Street intersection is the gateway to the City of Eagle and an important part of the downtown core. As a gateway, it serves vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages who want to access local businesses, neighborhoods, the elementary school, and the senior center.

ACHD has been communicating with local businesses who will be impacted by the construction, and the District will keep the public informed as work progresses. More information about the project is available on ACHD’s website, where citizens can also sign up for emailed project updates.
