Winning Names Selected for
ACHD’s Name a Plow Contest
ADA COUNTY — More than a thousand Ada County residents put their creativity to the test in the Ada County Highway District's inaugural Name a Plow contest. After a public vote, three winners were selected whose submissions will adorn ACHD snow plows and who will walk away with a prize and bragging rights.
The Highway District was overwhelmed by more than three thousand name submissions. Residents were punny and creative, submitting names with nods to celebrities such as “Taylor Drift” and "Scoop Dogg.” They worked in songs and movies such as “Fast and the Flurious” and even paid tribute to local businesses and figures with “JR Simplow” and “The Gebert Plow,” after late news anchor Larry Gebert. Others celebrated Idaho’s agricultural roots and local universities. Ada County residents also jumped on national and international trends, including around 70 submissions of "Plowy McPlowFace."
In the end, the winning names include “Snotato”, submitted by Trevin Meredith of Eagle, and “CTRL+SALT+DELETE,” submitted by Christina Straub of Meridian. The third name chosen, and most popular by far, was “Ashton Jeanty,” submitted by Mike Walsh, Associate Athletic Director at Boise State. The name, of course, is that the BSU First Team All American who fans say plows down his opponents on the blue turf.
A fourth plow will be named by ACHD staff through an internal contest. The results will be announced at a later date.
“We want to thank the public for participating with such great enthusiasm,” said Deputy Director of Communications Shandy Lam. “This time of year can be one of long hours and hard work for our snow team, and this contest was a great way to get crews and residents in the winter spirit.”
An unveiling ceremony will take place to celebrate the new names, which media will be invited to attend.
ACHD reminds drivers who come across any of ACHD’s 43 snow plows to give them plenty of room to work and never pass them on the right.
