Volunteer for Neighborhood Energy Blitz on April 25
Ready to make a difference? The City of Iowa City will be hosting the annual Neighborhood Energy Blitz on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Volunteers are needed to go door-to-door delivering energy-saving kits to homes in and around the Wylde-Weeber and Bryn Mawr Heights neighborhoods.
Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Horn Elementary and will serve on teams that cover walking routes of approximately two to three miles.
Participants can sign up for a morning shift (9 a.m.to noon), an afternoon shift (2:30- 5:30 p.m.), or both. Morning volunteers will distribute energy-saving kits, and afternoon volunteers will return to collect any kits left outside and sort used lightbulbs and batteries for safe disposal and recycling.
Helpers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children younger than 14 years old should be accompanied by an adult. Virtual training for all volunteers will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, and a recording will be shared at a later date. The rain date for this event is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026.
