Update: Person of interest identified in credit card fraud investigation
The person of interest in this investigation has been identified as Michael Amerson, 32, of Iowa City. Amerson was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2026, on charges unrelated to this case. Additional charges are expected.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, all persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No further information is available.

The Iowa City Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in a credit card fraud investigation.
At approximately 1:40 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, a stolen credit card was used at Hawkeye Liquor, 108 E. College St. As part of the ongoing investigation, police would like to speak with the person of interest pictured here.
