Iowa City Housing Authority introduces pilot incentive program to boost landlord participation in Mainstream Voucher program
The Iowa City Housing Authority (ICHA) is launching a pilot program to help 19 households find safe, stable homes through the Mainstream Voucher program. The vouchers support individuals with disabilities and families working to achieve long-term housing stability in Johnson County.
To encourage landlord participation and expand housing options, ICHA is offering a one-time financial incentive to property owners who lease to households currently searching for housing supported by a Mainstream Voucher. Incentives are as follows:
$1,000 for leasing to an adult household
$2,000 for leasing to a household with children
This is a limited-time pilot program, and incentives are available only while funds last. By participating, landlords not only receive a financial benefit but also play a vital role in helping local families and individuals secure stable, long-term housing.
ICHA partners with Shelter House to administer the Mainstream Voucher program, which provides robust case management and ongoing supportive services, such as assistance navigating income and benefit assistance, mental and physical health coordination, and life skills development, for these households through its permanent supportive housing programs.
“This pilot program is a meaningful way to open more housing opportunities for residents who need them most,” said Rachel Carter, Housing Authority Administrator. “We appreciate the landlords who are stepping forward to be part of the solution to housing instability in our community.”
