Eid al-Fitr is a holiday celebrated by Muslims around the world, marking the end of the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from sunup to sundown.
Join City High student leaders Miamen and Anbar to learn about the meaning and customs of Eid, and how their families and cultures of origin celebrate this major holiday! We'll enjoy some picture books and songs celebrating Eid as well.
After Storytime, make a craft, enjoy an Eid snack, and get a small henna design painted on your hand! All ages are welcome.

"Día de Las y Los Niños," translated as Children’s Day, is an annual tradition rooted in Mexico's cultural celebration dedicated to children! In the United States, libraries celebrate this tradition as Children’s Day/Book Day (El día de las y los niños/El día de los libros)—a joyful occasion that honors the holiday’s cultural roots while also promoting literacy, diversity, and a love of reading.
Come celebrate Children’s Day & Book Day with us! Join us in Meeting Room A at 1 PM for an exciting storytime with Iowa’s legendary lucha libre wrestler, Latin Thunder. We’ll have crafts, face painting, and popcorn—lots of fun activities you won’t want to miss!
Friday, April 25, 4 to 6:00 p.m. Storytime Room
Green Iowa AmeriCorps and the Iowa City Public Library are teaming up with the Neighborhood Forest to inspire youth environmentalism and offer storytime, fun activities, and lessons on tree planting and care all in celebration of Arbor Day!
There’s still a couple months until the Summer Reading Program kicks off, but we have a year-round reading program for kids five and under! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten encourages all families and caregivers to read one thousand books with their children before they enter kindergarten.
Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children at birth help to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary – two important tools for beginning to learn to read when they enter kindergarten. Go to the lading page for more information and register today! Don’t forget to stop in and claim your prizes as you make your way through 1,000 Books!
