Iowa City Fire Department responds to residential fire
The Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) was called to a fire at 1958 Broadway St. at 8:42 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Responding firefighters arrived on the scene four minutes after being dispatched and encountered smoke coming from a third-story window of the three-story apartment complex. Firefighters discovered an active fire in the kitchen of a third-floor unit and brought it under control.
All occupants had safely exited the building prior to the fire department's arrival. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damages and remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal's Office.
The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center, and MidAmerican Energy. The American Red Cross is assisting five residents displaced by the fire.
