Iowa City Municipal Airport receives $442K from Infrastructure Law for solar panels
The Iowa City Municipal Airport will receive $442,800 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which will go towards a solar panel project at the airport.
The funding award was announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Jan. 30, 2024, as part of a $245.9 million in Airport Infrastructure Grants. Read more about the grants at the U.S. Department of Transportation's website.
The grant money will help the Iowa City Municipal Airport install a solar power project that will offset the electrical energy required to operate the runway, terminal, and building lighting.
"This project wouldn’t have been possible without the funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," said Michael Tharp, Airport Manager. "The grant will be used to install a solar array of over 300 panels and reduce the Airport’s electrical utility costs by around 50%.”
