If you purchased an EV in 2023, don’t forget to file the form to claim your tax credit as you start prepping your taxes. The form you or your accountant will need can be found here on the IRS website.
Even better, starting January 1, 2024, accessing the incentive for EV purchases gets easier! The New Clean Vehicle Tax Credit (30D) and Used Clean Vehicle Tax Credit (25E) will be available at the time of sale from your local dealer because the tax credit can be transferred to the dealer.
What does this mean? It means that if you meet the income requirements when you purchase an eligible electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), you get the FULL amount of the tax credit up front. Depending on the vehicle, you could get $3,750, $4,000 or $7,500 off of the purchase price. This money can even be used as a down payment on the vehicle. There’s never been a better time to drive electric.
Mark your calendars for the Holiday Market from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 16, at Robert A. Lee Recreation Center! Farmers Market vendors and artists will have homemade, handcrafted, seasonal gifts, and food available for purchase. The Holiday Market will also feature kids crafts, breakfast, and lunch options made fresh on-site, and more. For details, visit the Holiday Market event page.
Iowa City Downtown District offers free delivery on behalf of 33 Downtown retailers. With route optimization and a hybrid vehicle in play, this local option may be more trustworthy than "carbon-neutral" shipping -- and it supports local businesses! Donation Receiving Supervisor at Crowded Closet Thrift Shop
What's your favorite way to take climate action?
Receiving generously donated items from this community then recirculating them back into the community through the thrift shop is purposeful action to me. It's as basic as receiving boxes and plastic bags from our Crowded Closet donors, then reusing them for our customers' purchases. It's also meaningful and collaborative when we partner with local organizations like Shelter House to share requested items, such as coats and blankets, to create a broader local reach of our efforts.
Why is it important to take climate action?
Climate action is important to me because every day I see thousands of items donated that are the result of fast fashion and planned obsolescence. This awareness has encouraged me to think before I buy and shop secondhand in an effort to reduce consumerism pollution.
What can others do to take climate action?
Climate action can be as simple as thinking before you buy--ask, What is the lifespan of this item, and Can someone else use it when I'm done with it? When it comes time to discard an item, donors take climate action when they share with Crowded Closet. Our staff and volunteers are leading the way by carefully assessing each donated item, always looking for ways to reuse, redirect, and recycle, which maximizes value and increases potential.
This month's reason for hope:
A new report by the Center for Biological Diversity found that 56% of Americans are likely to give a secondhand gift and 68% are likely to make a handmade or DIY gift during the holiday season.
