We're excited to introduce you to Miriam, a member of our Iowa City Public Library Bookmobile team.
Miriam brings a heartwarming touch to our Bookmobile, and her favorite memory perfectly encapsulates the magic she brings to the community.
"My favorite Bookmobile memory is driving through the school zone and seeing all the kids waving at us. We give them a friendly honk, and their faces light up! It definitely brightens my day every time!"
These heartwarming interactions remind us why we do what we do—to spread the love of reading and brighten the days of our community's future book readers.
So, next time you see the Iowa City Public Library Bookmobile rolling through your neighborhood, be sure to give a wave and a smile to Miriam and the team. They're here to make your day a little brighter, one book at a time!
Each time you hop on the ICPL Bookmobile, you will find new items to check out! A few new items that Bookmobile staff would like to recommend to you include:
Point Grey Pictures (United States), Red Mysterious Hippo (Firm)
The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey's business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo, her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat, her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye, Lolo's eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.
Travis and his sister, Corey, can't resist a good trick. When they learn that their grandmother's quiet Vermont inn, where they're spending the summer, has a history of ghost sightings, they decide to do a little "haunting" of their own. Before long, their supernatural pranks have tourists flocking to Fox Hill Inn, and business booms. But Travis and Corey soon find out that theirs aren't the only ghosts at Fox Hill. Their thoughtless games have awakened something dangerous, something that should have stayed asleep. Can these siblings lay to rest the troubled spirits they've disturbed?
“A Horse Named Sky” is a stand-alone companion novel to Rosanne Parry's New York Times bestsellers “A Wolf Called Wander” and “A Whale of the Wild.” Chronicling the perils of westward expansion and the grueling Pony Express from the perspective of a wild horse, “A Horse Named Sky” is a gripping animal survival story about family, courage, trust, leadership, and loyalty. Impeccably researched and illustrated in black-and-white throughout, “A Horse Named Sky” is an excellent read-aloud for parents and teachers, and a wonderful choice for fans of DreamWorks's “Spirit” and Anna Sewell's “Black Beauty.”
“The Quiet Tenant” is a psychological thriller about trauma, power, and survival, which follows a young woman who has been captured and confined by a serial killer–who is a father, widower, former Marine, and lineman for the local electric company–as he hides the true nature of his double life from his daughter, neighbors, and the local bartender who could be his next victim unless his captive manages to stop him.
