Tuesday afternoons are for the Kids Club! Each week, we'll have a new Club Day for kids to explore, create or learn something new. Programming is best suited for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, but all ages are welcome to attend. For October, both the World Club and Book-to-Art Club will focus on Hispanic Heritage Month and the Latinx holiday Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. See you there!
- First Tuesday of the month: Pokémon Club
- Second Tuesday of the month: Lego Club
- Third Tuesday of the month: World Club
- Fourth Tuesday of the month: Book-to-Art Club

The first week in October marks the American Library Association's longstanding annual recognition of the importance of intellectual freedom in libraries, known as Banned Books Week. Join us for a storytime featuring historically banned and challenged picture books for young readers, including "And Tango Makes Three," "Goodnight Moon," and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?"
Friday, Oct. 13, 12:30-2 p.m., Storytime Room
School's out today, so feel free to drop in and learn how to fold a cricket, an owl, a frog, a somersaulting horse, a crane and more with Emily Mallory from Emily's Papercrafts! Emily loves to teach papercrafting around the Midwest to all ages and has come to Iowa just to share her skills with us. School-age children (K-6) are welcome to come and learn how to make an origami animal!
Monday, Oct. 16, 5:30 p.m., Meeting Room A
Families can come learn about some of Iowa's largest birds and even meet a few! Some of the volunteers from Raptology will bring birds of prey and discuss their habitat, diet, size and answer any other questions about owls, falcons, vultures and hawks. All ages are welcome, but toddlers and infants need to have a lap to sit on.
Thursday, Oct. 26, 10:30 a.m., Meeting Room A
Join us for a special Halloween storytime followed by a Trick or Treat Parade through the Library! This year, we will be visiting several "boooooo-k" carts and meet some friends ready to show off their Halloween costumes and hand out some tricks and treats. This includes all Library departments, Iowa City Police, Parks & Rec, and Climate Action. After the parade, stop into the Storytime Room for more Halloween fun with crafts!
