At 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, Iowa City Police responded to Mercy Hospital, 500 E. Market St., for a report of a man stabbed.
Upon arrival, officers learned the victim was walking to his car in the Mercy parking ramp east of the hospital on Johnson Street when he was approached by an unknown male. The suspect pressed an object to the victim's back and demanded his wallet. When the victim turned around, the suspect stabbed him multiple times and fled the area.
The victim was able to walk into the hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as a 5'10", middle aged, dark haired, white man with a slender build and wearing a dark blue shirt. No additional information is available at this time.
