Saturday, August 5 at 10:30 a.m., Storytime Room This Storytime is part of a summertime series produced by the LENA Project and Oaknoll to create community-wide experiences centering on Monarchs and other pollinators, called The Butterfly Effect Experience (B.E.E.). After a pollinator-themed Storytime at the library, stick around for bee and monarch crafts! Find the LENA project at The Diversity Market (South District Market’s parking lot) this same afternoon to observe monarch caterpillars, learn about monarch butterflies and other pollinators, and create a monarch painting. Thursday, August 10 at 10 a.m., City Park Pool Summer is almost over, but we aren't done splashing in the water yet! Join us at City Park Pool from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for a free Storytime, craft, and playtime in the wading pool area. Storytime will start at 10:30 a.m. with a swimming theme! Enjoy a splashing good time!
Thursday, August 17 at 1 p.m., Meeting Room A Children in grades K-6 along with their caregivers (or the whole family) are invited to learn how to make challah with Rabbi Esther Hugenholtz! Rabbi Esther is currently the Rabbi for Congregation at Agudas Achim, but in her spare time she loves to bake! We will learn how to make the bread from a recipe, how to braid the challah, and kids can customize with toppings. Each family in attendance will take home a bread to bake and enjoy at home! Registration is required to ensure we have enough supplies, and each FAMILY only needs to register ONCE.
Thursday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m., Meeting Room A Join us for our first Preschool Stories & More with our first guest Trea Champagne, the instructor of Champagne Academy of Irish Dance. This week she will share stories, songs, and dancing with us! Participants will learn about the style of dance and try out some basic Irish dancing! Preschool Stories & More is the Thursday Storytime program at the Library and will often feature a guest presenter, storyteller, or performer! All ages are welcome to attend Preschool Stories & More every week, but some programs may be better suited for ages 3 to 5. If there is no guest presenter scheduled, Mari will do a traditional Storytime!
Friday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m., Wilson’s Orchard Join us for a special Storytime all about sheep at Wilson's Orchard and Farm! Now's your chance to come learn about the sheep at Wilson's, enjoy a sheep Storytime, go apple picking (and eating), and more! We will meet at 10:30 a.m. in front of the farm store for Storytime. Feel free to explore the many offerings of the Orchard, including a special sheep craft, hayrides, and apples! Wilson's is located at 4823 Dingleberry Rd NE, Iowa City, IA 52240. In the event of inclement weather, we will cancel Storytime.
