Have you signed up for the Summer Reading Program yet? You still have plenty of time! Track your reading during the Summer Reading Program through Saturday, Aug. 5! Registration can be completed in person at the downtown Library, ICPL Bookmobile, online via Beanstack, or by printing and submitting a PDF of the Summer Reading log. Participation is free and available for all ages, babies through adults. Be sure to check out all of the great programming offered for all ages throughout the month of July! The ICPL will give out book prizes while supplies last after the program ends — we encourage everyone to participate before school starts up! A big thank you to the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation and ACT for sponsoring the prizes!
Saturday, July 15 at 5 p.m., Meeting Room A
Learn about some of Iowa's largest birds and even meet a couple! Volunteers from Raptology, an Iowa City raptor and wildlife education group, will bring birds of prey and talk about their habitat, diet, size and answer any other questions you bring about owls, falcons, vultures and hawks! Small children must have a lap to sit on during the program.
Wednesday, July 26 from 6 to 8 p.m., City Park Pool
For July Family Night, we are partnering with Iowa City Parks and Recreation for a reduced-cost open swim at City Park Pool from 5 to 8 p.m. Kids are invited to participate in a fish-themed Storytime at 6 p.m. with a craft afterwards.
All ages can enjoy the pool until 8 p.m.
Thursday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to noon, Chauncey Swan Park
All good things must come to an end, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go out with splash … or blast! Join us from 10 a.m. and noon at Chauncey Swan Park to play with bubbles and experience a mega foam blaster party with other messy and wet games. Enjoy fire safety activities and fire engine tours from the Iowa City Fire Department while you’re there!
Tuesday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Johnson County Fairgrounds, 4261 Oak Crest Hill Rd SE
Visit the Iowa City Public Library and other Johnson County Library representatives at the Johnson County Fair on Kid’s Day on Tuesday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Stop by to pick up a sweet gift, register for a library card on the ICPL Bookmobile, check out an item, make a craft or simply say hi!
Enjoy other kid-friendly activities all morning at the fair!
