Area youth honored at 20th Annual Human Rights Youth Awards Ceremony
The Human Rights Commission recognized 42 area youth at its 20th Annual Human Rights Youth Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Students were selected for recognition based on their promotion of, or contributions to, human rights causes locally or abroad. Mayor Bruce Teague delivered brief remarks to the recipients in recognition of them being honored.
The complete list of recipients is: Chimamanda Anyaoha, Somtochukwu Anyaoha, Matisse Arnone, Neema Ash, Philip Berry Stoelzle, Greta Boerner, Siena Brown, Puck Carlson, Althea Downing-Sherer, Claire Forner, Iain Garfinkel, Nora Gibson, Vincent Hagen, Yshawi Jaishy, Reem Kamil Kirja, Sierra Keeney, Rayhan Khan, Jane Lam, Himani Laroia, Michael Lee, Jerry Li, Claire Loftus, Zoey Loftus, Kaylie Milton, Anika Nguyen, Sylvie Ntonku, Estelle Ralston, Rachel Samuel, Grace Schuessler, Ella Sherlock, Lanira Siron, Shahd Suleiman, Thalia Svec, Charlotte Utchudi, Elizabeth Utchudi, Mike Utchudi, Aria Warren, Grayson Wills, Penelope Wilmoth, Callum Wu, Leon Xie, and Andrea Zabibu.
Students attend Van Allen Elementary School, Weber Elementary School, Northwest Junior High, City High School, Clear Creek Amana High School, Liberty High School, West High School, Hillcrest Academy, and Kirkwood Community College.
