The City's Public Works Open House on Saturday, May 21, 2022, will be a one-of-a-kind event featuring indoor roller skating, a quilt show, an outdoor movie screening, live music, food vendors, and an open house exploring the new, award-winning Public Works facility!
The event is a collaboration with the Old Capitol Quilters Guild, and the entire Public Works facility will be draped in beautiful, handmade quilts from local quilters. The Iowa City Public Library and other City departments will have booths and hands-on activities showcasing services. ICPL's Bookmobile will also be open for visitors!
Come to ICPL to catch a mini-encore performance of the Iowa City Area Chinese Association's show, originally presented at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts in April, in honor of Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month! Join us for unique art and music and to celebrate a range of cultures and artistic mediums. This program will be in lieu of Storytime, and all ages are welcome to attend.

Summer is just around the corner, which means the ICPL Summer Reading Program is too! Beginning in June, people of all ages can register and receive a gamecard to track their summer reading goals! Kids can receive a camp ICPL t-shirt for reaching a reading goal, and all ages can choose a prize book once completed.
The summer is the busiest time of year at the Library, so we offer fun and educational programming for all ages every single day! Every household in Iowa City will receive a program guide in the mail this month with details about daily programming for kids, teens and adults. Join us for our annual kickoff event for summer reading during the Iowa Arts Festival. Produced by the Iowa City Public Library, ABC Day is a feast for kids and kids-at-heart! Activities will be spread out along the Pedestrian Mall, and will feature Paint the Town, life size games, music, art and more! The Family Stage by the fountain will offer family-friendly programming all day. This is a great time to sign up for the Summer Reading Program as well!
The Iowa City Public Library, in collaboration with the Library’s Friends Foundation and Iowa City Parks & Recreation, brings to Iowa City a brand new BookWalk installation each month. BookWalk is an interactive way for readers of all ages to enjoy storytime and the outdoors.
May’s story is "Let's Go on a Hike!" by Katrina Liu. With some rhyming and hiking, there's no end to exploring!. "Let's Go on a Hike" is a sweet rhyming story all about family and appreciating nature, trails, and the outdoors. Look for this book beginning the second week of May, and be sure to check out the bonus interactive activities to make your stroll even more fun!
