We have an exciting week planned for spring break with several programs a day for all ages. We'll offer Storytimes in the mornings and fun special programs for kids each afternoon! Here are just a few special visitors we are looking forward to hosting at the Library (be sure to check the online calendar for all of our events)!
Saturday, March 12 Dance Me a Story with Ballet Quad Cities Meeting Room A 10:30 a.m. This is a storytime, a dance class, and dress-up fun all in one! Emily Kate from Ballet QC will read a story and explore and teach the dance movement.
Lindsay McDermott is a local reptile enthusiast who has recently pursued her passion of sharing reptiles/invertebrates with children and families. At this event, she will bring several of her various lizards, snakes, arachnids and more to the Library to get up close and personal with attendees!
Families with children of all ages are invited to a Storytime with special guest presenter Denise Bean, youth services librarian at the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled. Learn about how to taste, smell, and feel all the colors of the rainbow! Children will also be invited to learn Braille!
Gym-Nest staff will guide participants through an obstacle course for toddlers and preschoolers, utilizing a unique combination of obstacles to promote skill and strength!
Celebrate Women's History Month with an exciting bingo event! Using bingo cards that feature important female figures, learn about these history-making American women with every square called in this bingo game. Fabulous prizes are up for grabs in this fast-paced game!
We are currently upgrading! The IT Department is working on installing new desktop computers in the Children's Room.
Half of our desktop stations are designed for children five and under and do not connect to the internet. They feature an array of award-winning early literacy games and interactive e-books. The other desktop computers in the Children's Room can be used for internet access, research and writing, or a variety of pre-loaded games, including the ever-popular Minecraft.
In addition to desktop computers, we have 10 iPads available for checkout for one hour of in-house use. Our iPads do not connect to the internet, and are pre-loaded with an array of educational and entertaining gaming apps.
These resources are one tool libraries use to facilitate access to information and build digital literacy for patrons of every age. As with all of our resources, librarians are ready to help you get connected!
You may have already seen Fang around the Children’s Room, she is not new to the building. Fang has been a Children’s hourly librarian since 2020. This past fall, Fang introduced a weekly Chinese Bilingual Storytime for our young library patrons on Tuesday mornings. In her new role, she will continue her weekly bilingual Storytime and will also offer monthly outreach visits to many of the area’s preschools and daycares. Congratulate Fang if you see her or attend her Storytimes!
