The Bookmobile operates rain or shine, but there are some weather events that force the Bookmobile to close. If severe weather is imminent when the Bookmobile is in service, our primary concern is the safety of people visiting the Bookmobile and our staff members.
In the event of a Severe Weather Warning, Bookmobile operations cease and all patrons must exit the vehicle.
Severe weather which may influence Bookmobile services include:
Tornado warning
70+ mile-per-hour winds
Golf ball-sized hail
Severe heat and cold advisories
For the most up-to-date information, look at the Bookmobile's webpage at icpl.org/bookmobile. Schedule information is also available by calling the Library at 319-356-5200 during regular Library hours.
To mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Bookmobile and Downtown Library visitors are welcomed, but not required, to wear a mask over their nose and mouth and practice social distancing. If you would prefer to pick your holds up just outside the Bookmobile doors, staff are prepared to accept your Library card and bring your items to you outside. Masks are provided at the Bookmobile and Downtown Library.
As supplies are available through testiowa.com, the Bookmobile will stock free test kits which can be completed at home and mailed to the State Hygienic Lab. Learn more at:
Bookmobile staff are excited and delighted to hit the open road and connect you with Library materials. Stop and see Paul & Sarah at Panera Bread on Sycamore Street, at Iowa City Marketplace. The Bookmobile visits this stop each Thursday from 9-10 a.m.
Panera is our newest stop added to the schedule, but it is already gaining in popularity, with a solid core of regular patrons and many visitors who just happen to see us and decide to drop by. Positioned next to one of the busier stretches of roadway in Iowa City, this stop is quite convenient for those out running errands, with ample parking and, of course, quick access to Panera.
BookWalk is an interactive way for readers of all ages to enjoy a story and the outdoors. Watch for new stories when you visit Willow Creek Park.
