The All Ages Winter Reading Program is back, and this year it will be a “Hoot!” The Winter Reading Program is for readers age 3 and up, kids through adults, and runs from Dec. 12, 2021 - Feb. 12, 2022. Register yourself and your family online or by stopping by the children's desk. Then log your reading online, pick up a gamecard from the Library, or print your own. Finish the program to receive a hot cocoa mug and be entered into our grand prize drawing for an Iowa City Downtown District gift card! Join us for a special Owl Storytime on Saturday, December 11 to kick off the Winter Reading Program!
On your way into the Library, you can greet a special owl guest from local raptor education program Raptology. And after Storytime, stick around for crafts and activities with Mia from Green Iowa.
Winter Break is a fun and peaceful time to catch up with friends and family and relax with some good books! Visit the Library on most non-holiday days of the break to stock up on books and enjoy some fun programs suitable for most ages. These are just a few of the programs, so be sure to check our online calendar for the full lineup.
Come to the Library on your first day of winter break for some cozy crafting! Elementary and junior high age kids are invited to drop in and create a homemade cross stitch ornament!
Spend the last hour of daylight on the winter solstice with us! All ages are invited to the Library as we celebrate the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year. Pajamas and cozy clothes are encouraged as we read stories, sing songs, watch movie shorts, and make fun winter crafts!
Join us for a special gingerbread-themed Storytime, and then stay for gingerbread decorating, holiday crafts, and winter stories on the big screen. All ages are welcome! We will provide gingerbread cookies to decorate and craft supplies for a fun wintry morning.
This week between holidays is all about relaxation and fun, so come play a game! All ages are invited to play a couple rounds of BINGO for some fabulous prizes!
Come to the Library for a late afternoon dance event where you will learn the basic moves of Salsa and Bachata! We will enjoy a story to learn more about Salsa, then we will bailar-- which means dance!
Fonziba's African drumming enables people of all ages to discover and enliven their innate personal creativity. Join us for an afternoon of learning and music, and get hands-on experience playing one of the 35 jembe hand or bass drums brought to the Library for this program.
Starting December 7, ICPL cardholders who live in Iowa City, Hills, Lone Tree, University Heights, and rural Johnson County can use hoopla by going to hoopladigital.com. To sign up, you’ll need your library card number, the password/pin for your card, and a valid email address. Hoopla is a groundbreaking digital media service that makes over one million movies, music, eAudiobooks, eBooks, comics, and TV shows available to borrow and enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV! Patrons can check out eight items a month with simultaneous access, which means you never need to wait on hold for popular titles. Some titles can be downloaded and enjoyed without an internet/wireless connection, some can only be streamed--a note right under the title information/borrow button indicates if the material is downloadable. Be sure to check out this great new resource!
