Join us for a very special Storytime guest!
We will learn about and celebrate Hanukkah with Rabbi Esther from the Agudas Achim Synagogue! We will read stories, sing songs and learn about holiday traditions. Make or take with you a simple weaving craft to add a pop of color to your household's holiday décor. You can make a beautiful traditional Star of David, or create your own fun patterns! Hanukkah Sameach!
ICPL's new catalog is live online! Enjoy improved features for our younger patrons, like:
Stronger spell-checking aid.
Easier account navigation (see when all those picture books are due at a glance!).
More pictures of book covers (helping pre-readers recognize favorites when browsing online!).
Search a subject of interest, then select filters along the left side of the page to limit the results to only certain sections of the Children's Room.
Save searches (Paw Patrol! Mo Willems!) and set up alerts to be notified via email when new items are added to the collection.
Staff encourages patrons to try the new catalog and fill out the feedback form to share their thoughts. As always, patrons can call 319-356-5200 or go to icpl.org/ask for assistance.
The Iowa City Public Library, in collaboration with the Library’s Friends Foundation and Iowa City Parks & Recreation, brings to Iowa City a brand new BookWalk installation each month in Willow Creek Park, located at 1117 Teg Drive.
BookWalk is an interactive way for readers of all ages to enjoy storytime and the outdoors. This month’s story is "We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga" by Traci Sorell. The word otsaliheliga (oh-jah-LEE-hay-lee-gah) is used by members of the Cherokee Nation to express gratitude. Visit and read the book to follow along with the celebrations and experiences through a full Cherokee year.
As we enter another season of fall and winter holidays, don't forget that the children's department has a wide selection of holiday books, both classics and new titles, perfect for sharing with the children in your life. For equity and ease of access, holiday books for children on every holiday throughout the year are now located together in our juvenile nonfiction section. You can find them in the 300s, where books on cultural customs are housed. Ask a librarian if you need help locating holiday titles. Whether it's Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashanah, Ramadan, Holi, Juneteenth, St. Patrick's Day, or another holiday, we've got you covered
