Bookmobile: Severe Weather Guidelines
Bookmobile service will occasionally be interrupted by construction, holidays and inclement weather. For the most up-to-date information, look at our daily schedule on our web page.
The Bookmobile operates rain or shine, but there are some weather events that force the Bookmobile to close. If severe weather is imminent when the Bookmobile is in service, our primary concern is the safety of people visiting the Bookmobile and our staff members.
In the event of a Severe Weather Warning, Bookmobile operations cease and all patrons must exit the vehicle.
Severe weather which may influence Bookmobile services include:
Tornado warning
70+ mile-per-hour winds
Golf ball-sized hail
Severe heat and cold advisories
For the most up-to-date information, look at the Bookmobile's webpage at icpl.org/bookmobile. Schedule information is also available by calling the Library at 319-356-5200 during regular Library hours.
Stories in the Park and the Bookmobile this Summer!
Join us for our last two weeks of Stories in the Park! View the Stories in the Park schedule on our website.
In order to keep audience attendance safely low without requiring registration, we will offer the same Storytime over the course of the week, so please choose one park location to attend.
The ICPL Bookmobile will be on site and open for checkout and browsing. Library cards can be issued and updated. In the event of rain, the program will be canceled but the Bookmobile will still be on site.
Mondays at 10:30am, - Willow Creek Park
Wednesdays at 10:30am, - Wetherby Park
Fridays at 10:30am, - Mercer Park
Swimming Storytime, July 26-30: Cool off with a fun storytime all about swimming with Angie! Front stroke, back stroke, fancy diving too, don't you wish you never had anything else to do? A preschool-age program where stories and picture books are combined with fingerplays, songs, and action rhymes.
Dance Storytime August 2-6: For our last week of the Summer Reading Programming, Tippi Toes will offer a unique program of dance and creative movement right at the park! Tippi Toes provides children with a fun, positive and nurturing environment so they are able to experience the joys of dance, self-expression and movement. Classes are specifically designed to develop motor skills and body awareness while enhancing each child’s self-esteem.
Parties in the Park
Thursdays | 6:30-8pm
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join other neighbors for an evening of fun and entertainment in a different local park each week. The event will include the ICPL Bookmobile, live music, arts and crafts, and ice cream. This is a no-fee event and is open to the public.

What do you like best about working on the Bookmobile?
Definitely the patrons and people I encounter while at a stop. The conversations are almost always fun and engaging. I also like the fellow staff I travel and work with on the Bookmobile.
How long have you worked at ICPL?
I’ve been with the Bookmobile since after it was approved to happen while things were still being planned, discussed, and worked out, so early 2016. I’ve been with ICPL since late 2007.
What are you currently watching, listening, or reading?
I’m currently reading a first edition of Animal Farm, I happened to stumble across. I am also reading some gardening books, and some titles related to computer apps and systems.
Expanded Access at ICPL
On July 1, the Iowa City Public Library expanded Library hours, removed the time limits for browsing, extended time limits for computer access, and lifted building and Bookmobile capacity restrictions. In addition to previously available services, the study and meeting rooms are now open to the public, and ICPL outreach services and programs are offered offsite.
Masks are suggested for those not yet vaccinated.
