Moving or decluttering? Pop-Up Donation Drop program launches June 26 in Iowa City
Pop-up Donation Drop is a new program being introduced this year to offer convenient, no cost donation options for community members that may be moving or are just wishing to donate usable items they no longer need. With Rummage in the Ramp not happening this year, this program is meant to serve as an alternative, co-hosted by the City of Iowa City and University of Iowa Office of Sustainability and the Environment.
Several temporary drop-offs will be available for area residents to:
Donate usable goods (acceptable household items include: clothing, working electronics/appliances, furniture, etc.). A full list of acceptable donation items is available online. All donations are provided to local non-profit organizations, Houses into Homes and Salvation Army.
Donate unopened food (packaged, boxed, or canned). All food donations are provided to Table To Table, the local food rescue non-profit organization.
Recycle old batteries (all kinds accepted). Batteries will be safely recycled through the Iowa City Landfill’s Hazardous Material Collection Facility. Batteries should not be thrown in the trash, as they can cause landfill fires. Learn how to properly dispose of batteries at www.icgov.org/hhm.
Pick up educational materials and giveaways. No cost educational materials and giveaways will be available for residents.

Saturday, June 26, 2021 (two locations and times):
Wetherby Park (2400 Taylor Dr.) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Old University Club parking lot, Lot 73 (1360 Melrose Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, July 10, 2021 (one location):
Market Street parking lot (next to Bluebird Diner, between Linn and Gilbert Streets) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, July 31, 2021 (two locations and times):
Happy Hollow Park (800 Brown St.) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mercer Park (1317 Dover St.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

UI Residence Halls events in May were a success
Pop-Up Donation Drop kicked off in May at University of Iowa residence halls to offer a donation option as students were moving out of dorm rooms to reduce the amount of usable goods ending up in dumpsters. This wave of the program was a success, with students able to donate usable goods, donate unopened food, and recycle old batteries. We sincerely thank our friends at Houses into Homes, Salvation Army, and Table To Table for the partnerships at the University events, and we look forward to kicking off the community events with them!
