The new Bookmobile route and schedule for summer 2021 will start on Tuesday, June 1, and will continue through Friday, August 20.
The new schedule further enhances library service to the community by allowing convenient and extended times along with the 125 Years of Stories Summer Reading Program.
The summer schedule will operate Monday through Friday to support neighborhoods and serve locations which have difficulty visiting a library building. The Bookmobile continues to offer the ability to pick up holds, browse and borrow from the Bookmobile bins, return materials, register for library cards, and participate in the Summer Reading Program at its regular scheduled stops. On board browsing resumes on Tuesday, June 1, with up to 5 masked visitors at a given time, invited on the Bookmobile for 5 minute browsing sessions.
We look forward to seeing you, helping you connect with library materials and awarding you your summer reading prizes. We continue to appreciate the opportunity to hear what you’re reading and to share information about library services. Thank you for your warm encouragement and kind words as we’ve returned to the road.

Rolling all over town the ICPL Bookmobile brings the Library to you!
The Iowa City Public Library Bookmobile invites you to check out our browsable bins on tables just outside the Bookmobile. These bins enable you to explore the Bookmobile collection including picture books, graphic novels, mysteries, non-fiction, and more. Once you find some titles to take home, we can check them out for you to enjoy.
Additionally, your holds can be picked up at the Bookmobile. When you ask for a hold or Interlibrary Loan let us know you'd like to pick it up at the Bookmobile and we will let you know when it is ready.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join other neighbors for an evening of fun and entertainment in a different local park each week. The event will include the ICPL Bookmobile, live music, arts and crafts, and ice cream. This is a no-fee event and is open to the public.
Stories in the Park returns along with the Bookmobile this summer! In order to keep audience attendance safely low without requiring registration, we will offer the same storytime over the course of the week, so please choose one park location a week to attend, or you can watch the storytime from home, live on Zoom on Tuesdays! Masks are required, as well as families sitting and remaining socially distant from individuals not in their group.

1. What do you like best about working on the Bookmobile? Connecting with patrons in their own neighborhoods and where they organically flow in our community.
2. How long have you worked at ICPL or the Bookmobile? I started at ICPL in September of 2020 and have enjoyed working on the Bookmobile for the past few months.
3. What are you currently watching, listening, or reading? Useful Delusions: The Power and Paradox of the Self-Deceiving Brain by Shankar Vedantam, Bill Mesler. So far it’s been a fascinating examination of self-narratives and their utility in managing life and society regardless of their veracity.
We are offering limited services. Community safety continues to be our priority and we will continue to adapt our services based on the changing public health conditions. Learn more about current Library services here.
