Diversity, Leadership & Effective Listening: A Social Justice Imperative training
The City's Office of Equity & Human Rights is offering a new online training opportunity for area businesses and organizations. There is no charge to participate in this virtual event.
The program will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, and is scheduled to end at 4 p.m.
How are your listening skills?
Effective listening is the greatest social justice tool never taught. Of the four forms of verbal communication, most everyone has had a reading, speaking, and writing course, but few if any have ever had a course on effective listening. Indeed, only 2 in 100 people have ever had any training in receptive communication that allows us to truly understand another human being with dignity and respect. This seminar explores the rarely discussed art, skill, and practice of effective listening. The session uses experiential activities and exercises that focus on alertness, awareness, and attentionality. Participants will identify personal listening habits that inhibit or enhance social justice, and learn to critically spot exclusive language,
About the speakers
The training will be facilitated by John G. Igwebuike and Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr.
Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. has achieved success in academia, business, diversity, leadership and community service. In 1996, he started America & MOORE, LLC to provide comprehensive diversity, privilege and leadership training/workshops. Dr. Moore is the Founder/Program Director for the White Privilege Conference (WPC). In 2014 Dr. Moore founded The Privilege Institute (TPI) which engages people in research, education, action and leadership through workshops, conferences, publications and strategic partnerships and relationships.
John G. Igwebuike is founder and non-profit leader of Guanacaste: The Lead Listening Institute. Guanacaste is a quiet revolution--a unique movement dedicated to advancing and championing the positive power of effective listening in human relationships. Dr. Igwebuike is a highly motivated individual who values education, personal growth, and development.

The training will hold up to 95 participants, so please sign up early to reserve your spot in this event. Duplicate registrations will be deleted to afford this opportunity to as many participants as possible.
