Picture Book Month is an international literacy initiative celebrating the printed picture book. This month we have a special calendar to share with you highlighting both the importance of reading picture books and asking our community to ReadWoke with us.
To show how thankful we are for picture books and our community, ICPL will be giving out two $25 Prairie Lights gift cards to ReadWoke finishers at the end of November, and again in December.
Be sure to keep an eye out on our social media pages this month for posts featuring staff favorites, more about picture books, highlighting wordless ones, and so much more.
Introducing Featured Collections
It pains us that in-person browsing of the Library collections is not a zero-risk activity. We are actively trying to create ways for you to find something you will love on our shelves. Our latest endeavor is the new Featured Collections tool on our home page. These Featured Collections lists highlight available books about popular topics, which you can conveniently and safely browse from home.
You may have stumbled across our horror stories list last month. This month, we are welcoming chillier days with books about coziness and warmth. We’ve pulled together lists that support your goals to stay home and be well. You’ll find the following:
Picture books about sharing and gratitude in our Be Thankful list
Books on family activities in our Things Kids Can Make & Do list
Baking, crafting, and wellness books in our adult nonfiction Cozy & Well list
Stories with family—love ‘em or hate ‘em—front and center in our Family-Focused Fiction list
Explore these books to your heart’s content. Click on one to reserve it for you. Our collections are here to serve you and your family’s needs, especially as the days grow shorter and darker. Take advantage of these finds as we all stay home, together.
