Iowa City Public Library is pleased to welcome our next Adult Services Coordinator: Jason Paulios.
Paulios has been with Iowa City Public Library since 2005, including time as a library assistant cataloging books, helping in the Ellen Buchanan Children's Room, planning teen programs, and most recently 7 years as Senior Librarian in Adult Services. He received his master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
Paulios succeeds Maeve Clark, who retired earlier this year after 28 years of service to ICPL.
The Adult Services Coordinator oversees adult reference services offered at the Info Desk, Switchboard, Digital Media Lab, Koza Family Teen Center, and Page Station. They also coordinate programming opportunities for adults and teens.
"I am excited to welcome Jason into his new role on the leadership team," said Elsworth Carman, Director of Iowa City Public Library. "His history of service at ICPL positions him to both explore new opportunities and continue successful legacy projects with the Adult Services department."
Of his new role, Paulios said, "I am so excited to accept this new position at a library I love, working alongside coworkers that I greatly respect. We're a library that is always striving to be innovative and responsive to our community's information needs. I can't wait to get started!"
New library card for all Iowa City students
Many students have already received and begun to use their new AIM card, which offers students in the Iowa City Community School District access to public library materials at Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty libraries.
The goal of the AIM (Student Access to Information and Materials) cards is to increase student literacy and access to library materials.
For now, students may check out three books or digital items with their card, including ebooks and audiobooks from Overdrive, movies from Kanopy, and magazines from RBdigital. The AIM card will not have fines or fees.
During February, we invite patrons to share what they love about the library in our first floor display. We also invite you to Love Your Library by enjoying a wine tasting at Hy-Vee on the corner of First Ave. and Rochester Ave. on Friday, February 21 from 5 PM to 7:30 PM. A generous percentage of the evening's sales will be donated to the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation. Participants must be 21 or older. For more information, click here.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
How are those taxes going? If you need a little help, volunteers from the University of Iowa Tippie College Accounting Program and Law School provide free income tax preparation help in the library. The service, called VITA, is at Iowa City Public Library most Saturdays and Sundays until April 15. The volunteers prepare tax returns and e-file the returns free of charge. More information about the program, including schedule and income requirements, are available here.
