Library Begins Daily Afternoon Snack for Kids and Teens
A special effort to ensure kids and teens who visit the Library don’t go hungry raised $3,000 to purchase daily afternoon snacks. The Alternative Christmas Team at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City identified this need after hearing about food insecurity issues in our community.
The Library began daily 4:00 PM snack time for children on Monday, February 3. Snacks are available for children up to age 18 and will be available at the Children's Desk.
Special Access Browsing - Winter Fun
On selected days, the Library opens one hour early for individuals with autism and their families to enjoy the library together in a neutral environment.
On Saturday, February 15, at 9 AM, we will have a winter themed party, including storytime, crafts, dancing, and a snowball fight!
The Teen Room will be open for teens to play computer and video games. Therapy animals will also be on hand to wander through the library giving support and friendship. The library will also use natural lighting throughout the library to accommodate those with light sensitivity. Please contact Angie Pilkington (angela-pilkington@icpl.org or 319-887-6019) if you have questions about this event.

Mock Newberry Award Winner
During January, ICPL patrons had the opportunity to vote in our Mock Newbery Award at icpl.org/kids, selecting their top choice from a list of the probable contenders made by our children's librarians. ICPL's 2020 Mock Newbery went to Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga, a novel in verse about the global refugee crisis.
