New Card for ICCSD Students
ICPL is partnering with the Iowa City Community School District, Coralville Public Library and North Liberty Community Library to give students in the IC Community School District greater access to books and other resources to support literacy. We call it the AIM Card – “Access to Information and Materials.”
The AIM Card provides a Library Card for all ICCSD students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Students can check out up to three items, including books, books on CD, magazines and digital materials, from any of the three public libraries plus the Iowa City Public Library’s Bookmobile. The AIM Card also will serve as the student ID card for Iowa City Community School District students.
The addition of the AIM Card means some students may have two Library Cards – an AIM Card plus a traditional Library Card. That’s OK. Families may choose the Library Card they prefer to use. Items checked out on a student’s AIM Card are exempt from late fines and fees, regardless of the individual library’s policy.
We are delighted to work with our community partners to introduce a new literacy initiative for our students. For more information, visit www.iowacityaimcard.org, call the Library at 319-356-5200 or stop by and talk to one of our staff members.
Best of 2019 | ICPL Staff's Favorite Children's Book
ICPL staff's favorite children's book of 2019 is Sulwe by Lupita Nyong'o.
Sulwe has skin the color of midnight. She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than anyone in her school. Sulwe just wants to be beautiful and bright, like her mother and sister. Then a magical journey in the night sky opens her eyes and changes everything.
In this stunning debut picture book, actress Lupita Nyong’o creates a whimsical and heartwarming story to inspire children to see their own unique beauty.
"Lupita's story of her own struggle with being unique is portrayed beautifully through Sulwe's desire to just fit in. A great story about loving yourself." - Mari, ICPL Children's Librarian
