ICPL Presents Children’s Winter Book Reading Program
Registration for the Iowa City Public Library’s Reading is Llamazing Winter Reading Program begins December 14.
Available for young readers ages three through 12, the program will help children pass the winter hours when it’s too cold to play outdoors. It will run from December 14 through February 14.
Kids who read and track 10 books on their reading log will receive a coupon to the Iowa Children’s Museum and Panda Express. When they finish another 10 books, they’ll receive a ticket to our Llamazing Hot Cocoa Party on February 15 and be entered into the grand prize drawing for a $50 gift certificate to Prairie Lights Bookstore.
Sign up at the Children’s Desk, on the Bookmobile or online at icpl.org/wrp. All participants will receive a game card to track their progress.
Spend winter break at the Library!
The weather outside may be frightful, but ICPL is always delightful; that's why visiting the Library should be on your winter break activity list!
Stop by and stock up on books, games, music and movies to keep everyone entertained when it's too cold to go outside. Even better, come when we have a fun program or activity happening! You'll find all of our December programs for children and tweens on our calendar. A few we want to make sure you know about include the following:
Family Night: Ebenezer Duke with Duke Otherwise, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, in Meeting Room A. Ebenezer Duke is a new mini-musical re-telling of A Christmas Carol told through original songs, storytelling/acting, dance, and audience participation.
The Poinsettia Project, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 23, in the Storytime Room. In many Latin American cultures, the poinsettia is given as a traditional gift and acts as a symbol of the Christmas season. This afternoon, kids in kindergarten through second grades are invited to come learn about the significance of the poinsettia as we read Tomie dePaola's The Legend of the Poinsettia and create unique handmade poinsettia art prints.
Noon Year's Eve Party, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, in Meeting Room A. Our kid-friendly daytime New Year bash is an ICPL tradition! Come ring in 2020 with crafts, games and dancing!
