Here’s a novel idea: take a break from the kitchen and go out to eat. Better yet, enjoy a meal and support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time.
From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, Pancheros Mexican Grill at the downtown Iowa City location, 32 S. Clinton St., will host Queso for a Cause. During this event, Pancheros will donate sales of chips and queso, chips and guacamole, extra queso, extra guacamole, and extra meat to the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation. Load up on the extras for lunch and enjoy extras at ICPL as a result!
Mark your calendar: Iowa City Book Festival Oct. 1-6
The Iowa City Book Festival will be held October 1 through October 6, with most events at locations throughout downtown Iowa City.
The festival's 11th year will feature a mix of authors, panel discussions, workshops, a book fair and more, with programming that blends the best in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. A schedule of events can be found here.
Long a showcase for collaborations with other area organizations, this year’s festival partners include the International Writing Program, the One Community One Book program, the Iowa City Public Library, Sustainable Iowa Land Trust, the Iowa Writers’ House and more.
Iowa City is one of just 28 Cities of Literature in the world, and the Iowa City Book Festival celebrates books and writing by leveraging the unique mix of local resources that helped to earn that designation.
Arts & Crafts Bazaar Call for Donations
The Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation is now accepting donations of handmade arts and crafts for the Seventh Annual Arts & Crafts Bazaar.
This year’s bazaar will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 7, in Meeting Room A. Proceeds from the sale support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation to benefit Library programs and collections.
Those wishing to donate items may bring them to the Library during open hours before Wednesday, December 4. All items must be handmade and be delivered with an ICPL Arts and Crafts Bazaar donation form (available at the Library and online).
With the new school year underway, now is the perfect time to check your wallet, purse and backpack to make sure you have the most important school supply item: your Iowa City Public Library Card!
September is Library Card Sign Up Month. If you don’t have a Library Card, now is the time to get one. Use your Library Card to check out books, movies, videogames, framed art, laptop computers, and music; access databases; explore the Library’s digital collection, including eBooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines; and get connected to the Library’s on-site public computer stations. You can also use your Library Card to download movies from Kanopy, access The New York Times and become a member of our Digital Media Lab.
Cards are available for Iowa residents of any age. Pre-apply online or complete the entire process in person at the first floor Help Desk whenever the Library is open. You can also apply for a card on the Library’s Bookmobile.
A photo ID and Iowa address verification are required for all options.
If you’ve lost your card, we’ll replace it for free all month long!
