Public input sought for new playgrounds at Fairmeadows and Wetherby Parks

The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking the public's input on replacement playgrounds and shelters at two Iowa City parks. All proposed upgrades meet ADA requirements while improving access to primary park amenities. These year 2020 projects follow the recommendations of the 2017 Iowa City Park Master Plan. Comments on the proposed designs will be accepted through paper or online form below until Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019. 

Fairmeadows Park Playground and Shelter

The above photo shows the current playground equipment at Fairmeadows Park. 

The Fairmeadows Park picnic shelter and playground are scheduled for renovations in 2020. The intention is to replace the current playground with a play area for preschool children as the Grant Wood Elementary playground is adjacent to the site. No changes are anticipated to the spray pad with this project. 

A public input meeting was held at the park on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019. For those who could not attend, the options for a traditional playground design and individual playground design can be viewed online. The public is invited to provide feedback on the options using the online form by Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.

Wetherby Park Playground, Shelter, and Restrooms

The above photo shows the current playground equipment at Wetherby Park. 

The Wetherby Park picnic shelter, restrooms, and playground are scheduled for renovations in 2020. The intention is to replace the shelter and restroom to designs specified in the 2017 Iowa City Park Master Plan. No changes are anticipated to the splash pad, sport courts, gardens, trails, or parking lot. 

A public input meeting was held on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019. For those who could not attend that meeting, the four playground design options are available for display online. The public is invited to provide feedback on the options using the online form by Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.
