Celebrate Pride Month at our Drag Storytime on June 15
In celebration of Pride Month, we're offering a special Family Storytime Drag Storytime Party from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15!
Fun costumes are encouraged and we will have silly props available as we read LGBTQ stories, and sing and dance with local drag kings and queens.
Family Storytime is designed for the whole family and presented at a time convenient for most working parents. After Storytime, pop outside for the 49th Annual Iowa City Pride Fest and Parade!
ICPL Summer Bus Program happening now!
An Iowa City Public Library card is your child’s ticket to ride an Iowa City Transit bus free this summer.
The Library will provide free bus rides to children through 12th grade, and the adult caregivers who are with them, on any Iowa City Transit bus route traveling to the downtown interchange, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. every weekday. Eligible bus riders should show their Iowa City Public Library card to the bus driver to gain free access to the bus. Children can catch a ride home anytime the same day with a Ride & Read bus pass, which is issued by showing a Library Card at any public service desk at the Library.
Parents, if your child doesn’t have an Iowa City Public Library card, pre-register here. Complete your application online, then stop by the Help Desk or the ICPL Bookmobile within two weeks to pick up your card. You can also apply for the Library Card in person at the Help Desk any time the Library is open or on the Bookmobile.
Adults will need to show photo identification (current driver’s license or passport) and proof of resident address (current driver’s license, mail with a current post mark, current lease) in order to obtain a Library Card. Photo identification is not required for children under age 14.
The summer bus program ends the week day before the first day of school.
ICPL partners with UI for Reading Boost tutoring program
Elementary school-age children will have the opportunity to get a Reading Boost with free reading tutoring at the Iowa City Public Library.
The Library has partnered with the University of Iowa Honors Program to match UI honor students with local elementary students for a month-long reading program designed to keep literacy skills fresh.
Reading Boost will be held June 25, with 20-minute tutoring sessions available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
This is not a drop-in program; participants must sign up for their tutoring slot. To sign up, visit ICPL's calendar, select the date you want, click on reading tutor and register for your preferred time slot. You may also register by calling the Library at 319-356-5200; ask for the Children’s Desk.
