Iowa City Municipal Airport unveils new viewing area
The Iowa City Airport Commission invites the public to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Airport Viewing Area at noon Friday, May 31, 2019.
The Airport Viewing Area serves as a place that members of the community can use to enjoy the activities of the Iowa City Municipal Airport, as well as learn about the airport’s history and connection to the community.
The viewing area contains a shelter with picnic tables, a raised viewing platform, a small play area, and educational displays containing information about the airport’s history, operations, and commonly seen aircraft. If the timing is right, visitors can also see planes takeoff and land.
Each year the Iowa City Municipal Airport has 36,000 aircraft operations (takeoffs or landings.) The airport contributes over $11 million dollars to the area economy.
The viewing area will be available for public enjoyment from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
