Don’t throw it away! Donate and keep stuff out of the Landfill!
Moving and can’t take all your stuff? The City of Iowa City encourages you to donate furniture, clothing, housewares, books, and other materials you no longer need, rather than sending still-usable items to the landfill.
To access a list of area nonprofits, agencies, and businesses that will accept donations, as well as buy or consign items, see the recently updated Iowa City Area Resale and Consignment Directory
The following items must be recycled: appliances, televisions, computer screens, and cardboard.
If you’re moving at the end of July, consider donating to the City of Iowa City’s Rummage in the Ramp, a community-wide garage sale that accepts donations of items you no longer need and sells them back to the public at low prices. The sale not only keeps tons of items out of the Landfill, but also helps raise funds for the local nonprofits that staff the 10-day event.
