Bookmobile Stop Spotlight: Oaknoll Retirement Community
We call Tuesday on the Bookmobile schedule Westside Day because it's Tom and Paul on the mobile library traveling the west side of town. Together, they make six stops.
The Oaknoll Retirement Community, they say, is by far their most active.
"We're here for an hour, so we get quite a few visitors," Tom says.
"We get the most interaction at this stop, too," Paul adds.
They have their regulars, people who look forward to the weekly visit so they can drop off old materials and pick up new. They talk about what they're read, ask for recommendations and share some of their own. They talk about other things, too, which is why Tom and Paul know one couple won't be visiting because they're on vacation.
"Since Tom and I have been Bookmobile partners, Oaknoll has been one of our stops and boy do people love it," Paul says.
Eileen Robinson and her husband, John, agree.
"We really appreciate the Bookmobile," Eileen says. "I get down to the Library once a week to volunteer, but I still like to visit the Bookmobile, too. It's great."
John said he appreciates the camaraderie he has with the Bookmobile staff.
"They give me good recommendations," he says with a laugh. "They're better than Google!"

Wheeled Wonders: A Celebration of Bookmobiles
National Bookmobile Day was Wednesday, but we're celebrating all week as it's also the 2nd birthday of our very own Bookmobile!
For more than 100 years, bookmobiles have brought a library to those that otherwise may not have access to one. In honor of a holiday of celebrating the wonderful services bookmobiles all over the world provide.
